I think anyone who supports the legislation is absoulutley
out of their minds! And why is this new law only targeted at
teens? Oh, wait...I know why...it's all because the Liberal
party of Ontario and Dalton McGuinty are a bunch of
miserable cowards and target teens with this new law because
they know that teens recieve the most criticism out of all
drivers on the road and can't really speak for themselves
because they aren't 'adults' yet. But yet I've noticed some
teens are more responsible and respectful on the road than
some old GRANDPAS who drive around like they own the roads
in their rich pony cars like Mercedes, BMW, Mustangs...etc,
etc, etc...you get the idea. You see where I'm going with
this? I might have captivated most of you who may read this,
and if I haven't then I don't know what will. Just take this
with a grain of salt and know that this is just my opinion.
But if anyone whishes to reply to this and if they support
the new legislation, just know that I'm going to simply
reply to you with quite hard facts and I will make you
really think about just what your supporting. Because anyone
who supports this legislation might as well support
communism because that's what this new 'law' is...communism
against teen drivers, and IT ISN'T RIGHT!!!!

@ itzik.
Um, this law would actually do something. The statement you
made that
"We will still drive our friends,we will still drive
over the limit and teens will still drink and drive."
is completely incorrect. Zero-tolerance laws which will
result in your license being taken away will do something.
Seeing that if you are caught driving without a license jail
time is a likely possibility, we can see that this law isn't
just for show.

I agree, let them do what they want, if it'll keep roads
safer it's better for all.
Just learn to deal with it

Haha Jeremy, your filling your opinions page up. You should
leave this page to your visitors as the rest of the website
is your opinion (with facts obviously).
BTW, I like the new layout. Great improvement.
And my opinion - let the government do what they want. They
can change the law and force teens to have no rights. But in
the end, it doesn't matter. We will still drive our friends,
we will still drive over the limit and teens will still
drink and drive. The government just proposes such a law to
make them seem like they are actually doing something with
their time.
The only thing this law will do is allow cops to write more
tickets.

Alright Terence it maybe true old people wont get into
accidents because of drinking and driving but what about
everyone in between? from 22-65? I believe if they pass the
alcohol law, which personally I dont drink and drive so it
wont effect me, I believe that they should make the law for
everyone! Hey why not solve the problem all at once? Get rid
of drinking and driving all together... or get rid of it for
the people that are intimated by the law.

"You brought up the point of insurance? Why do I pay so
much for insurance compared to someone else? I cannot
actually tell you the correct answer as I am not aware of
how insurance get their prices. But I do know insurance goes
down from young driving and goes up eventually once you
reach a certain age."
You made some good points. But you haven't explicitly
explained why the rates are so high for teens. Now you use
the excuse that you dont know how insurance agencies work,
but it seems completely obvious that they will charge more
for more potential accidents. This requires no knowledge of
how the system works, it is just common sense.
Also the what you said about the insurance rates going back
up at a certain age. if we assume this is true what are the
chances that seniors, I repeat seniors, are getting into
traffic accidents because they are drinking and driving or
driving at excessive speeds. it seems much more likely that
it is because of their age that they are getting into
accidents. Waning eye sight seems very likely to cause an
accident. they are not drinking or speeding, but they are
still getting into accidents. this may contribute to the
statistic you showed me. the percentage of accidents caused
by alcohol and speeding is much higher for teens than other
age groups. even though the accident rates may be similar.

"And Terence are you joking? Everything is about carbon
emissions when it comes to driving these days."
The reason why everything is about carbon emissions nowadays
is nto because of the present it is for the future. The
reason why they want to implementing this legislature now
and at once is because they want results right away. At the
rate we are driving now can you tell me how long we have to
live?

Alright Terence, if you need proof of the stats

07802758/n507802758_1160567_1989.jpg I cannot find the
original article any more.
You brought up the point of insurance? Why do I pay so much
for insurance compared to someone else? I cannot actually
tell you the correct answer as I am not aware of how

As for drinking and driving here our some stats by age for
male drinking and driving:

As you can see a 20 year old gets into as many DUI's as a
49year old. They are not even making so that the group of
the most DUI's are effected. In this case 23year olds and
45year olds. Okay maybe they can shift the stats down a bit
so that it peaks at 30 instead of 23, but what are they
going to do about all those 23 year olds currently DUI? If
your gonna make a law make it effect everyone! Specially
those that it will have more on an impact with. Also may I
say that if your gonna drink and drive your gonna drink and
drive regardless of the law. Why make it so that people that
can actually drive responsively with a 0.05% BAC cant drive?
And those that cant drive responsively with a 0.05%+ BAC
drive regardless of the law?
I remember I never obeyed the limit on the 1 passenger law
for the first months of my G2.... My dad always yelled at
me... why would drunk drivers obey this law? The police wont
enforce it any differently then they already do. If the
police enforced drinking and driving more im sure we can at
least half drinking and driving stats.
And Terence are you joking? Everything is about carbon
emissions when it comes to driving these days.
"And how the heck will there be more drunk drivers? The
whole point of this legislation is to prevent this. Are you
saying that suspending licenses will increase drunk driving?
If so, please elaborate."
More designated drivers at a party is not gonna happen,
people hate to be DD's as it is. Put two and two together
and bam that's your answer right there Terence (on another
not they are considering dropping the 1 passenger limit).
By: terence to
um, carbon emissions isn't really an issue right now. What
you are essentially saying is that you'd rather see people
die in bunches rather than in pairs. The whole point of the
passenger thing is to make sure that if a drunk driver does
get into a car accident, less people will be affected. Also,
is traffic so big of a deal that you would let one drunk
driver carry 4 passengers at once, just so there is less
traffic?
And how the heck will there be more drunk drivers? The whole
point of this legislation is to prevent this. Are you saying
that suspending licenses will increase drunk driving? If so,
please elaborate.

I got your back Joe.
First of all, I think you should look at those stats again
cus they seem wildly inaccurate. I dont like using this
point but im gonna bring it back up again. Why is teen
insurance so high? Why are you paying so much in comparison
to other drivers? If it were really drivers over the age of
65 that caused more damage than wouldnt insurance companies
raise their costs up to the roof? After all, their entire
mission is to make money, so wouldnt it be very likely that
they would get it right. Shouldnt it be the seniors getting
these ridiculous rates? No. We know for a fact how stupid
teenagers can be. Also another point to to make is the issue
of deterrence. If a 65 year old gets into a car accident how
likely is it that it will involve alcohol or excessive
speeds, really. How much of an impact would punishing a
senior make? They would have been driving for over 35 years.
For a teen who has only been driving for a year or so, the
zero-tolerance part of the legislature will have an enormous
impact on them.
